Jones Program in Ethics (JPE)
Some Love for Us: Representing Emotion in the Art and Politics of #BlackLivesMatter
What originally intended as a love letter to black people via social media, ultimately launched the movement known as #BlackLivesMatter. This lecture, presented by African-American scholar and author Deborah McDowell, explores the impact, response, audience, and other pivotal factors surrounding the movement today.
Making Your Research Data Reproducible
This workshop covers best practices to make the research data you create or collect reproducible and reusable. It provides an overview of current trends from publishers and funders of research in the U.S. and internationally. It also offers guidance on how to share and cite data via established data repositories.

Fellowships
Freie Universität Berlin Graduate Student Exchange Program
The Laney Graduate School has a graduate student exchange program with the Freie Universität Berlin (FUB). The program seeks to promote strong academic and cultural ties between the two institutions. One student may be selected to represent Emory at the FUB for the 2020-21 academic year (October 1, 2020- July 31, 2021). Selection is based on a competitive process. Application Deadline: March 6.

2020 Mellon Public Writing Fellowship Application (Deadline Extended)
The Emory Writing Program will award two Mellon Public Writing Fellowships (2020-2021) to advanced graduate students interested in community engagement and public scholarship. The fellowships are supported by the Mellon Humanities PhD Interventions Project.
MPW fellows will work 16 to 18 weeks (15-20 hours per week) with a partnering community organization during the fall and early spring terms. Afterward, fellows will return to campus to engage in dissemination activities (teaching/tutoring/presenting) for the remainder of the academic year. Application Deadline: February 28 .
Digital Dissertations Scholars Program
The Digital Dissertation Scholars Program (DDSP) offers mini-grant funding up to $2,500 and personalized guidance in drafting a digital project plan. During this year-long program, students will work closely with their advisor, an interdisciplinary cohort of fellow students, and digital scholarship professionals to tailor a plan that is customized to their project. Application Deadline: March 13.
Data Incubator
The Data Science Fellowship Program from The Data Incubator is one of the most rigorous, intensive programs available. Designed to create the data scientists of tomorrow from qualified STEM academics, this full-time, eight-week program provides the skills needed to succeed.
The Spring 2020 session runs from April 06 to May 29.

IGSS Movie Night: Harriet
February is Black History Month and IGSS has partnered with NOBCChE (National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers) to screen the 2020 Oscar-nominated movie, Harriet.
Students are invited to enjoy refreshments and watch the movie on theater-like couches!
Restorative Black Grad Yoga Workshop
Join the Office for RACE this February in a Restorative Yoga workshop run by Dr. Tiffany Johnson. Tiffany Johnson is an Assistant Professor in Organizational Behavior at Georgia Institute of Technology but also a yoga and meditation teacher. She is one of the founders of the non-profit organization, The Good Work Institute. Yoga mats will be provided.

The Mellon Humanities PhD Interventions Project invites all humanities and humanities-oriented PhD students to our Spring 2020 event: Artistic Research and Hybrid Scholarship. The event takes place on March 17-18.
Data Science for Scientists ATL General Body Meeting: “Reproducibility in Research with R”
D ata Science for Scientists ATL will host the next general body meeting on Thursday, February 27, at 4pm at AMUC Room 225 (600 Means Drive). Dr. Madelyn Houser, a postdoctoral researcher working with Dr. Vicki Hertzberg in the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing and the Center for Data Science at Emory University, will join the meeting. She will give a talk on reproducibility in research.
Light refreshments will be provided.
La Sala: Afro-Latinidad Discussion
Centro Latinx's weekly programming series, La Sala, is focusing on Afro-Latinidad during Black History Month. The final event features a discussion on Blackness in the Latinx community beginning with a focus on the Super Bowl halftime show. Caribbean food provided. Sponsored by LGSA, ACES, PRSA, and ALAS.
ComSciCon 2020 Applications
ComSciCon 2020 is an engaging annual conference about science communication. Admission is highly competitive and requires an application. Applications are due March 1. If you are selected to participate, attendance is free, and travel and lodging support are available through ComSciCon. Attendees may apply for PDS conference funds to support any eligible, additional expenses.

CIRTL | Getting Hired at a Community College: Tips and Strategies from Faculty on Hiring Panels Forum
Interested in working at a community college? Learn hiring tips from faculty that serve on or work closely with hiring committees at community colleges. This event will explore topics such as the differences between interviewing for a four-year teaching or research university and the factors one should consider in preparing application materials and teaching demonstrations.

CIRTL | Developing Equity-Minded Mentors among Faculty and Researchers
Findings from a recent study indicate that graduate students in the natural sciences benefit significantly from the mentoring activities of more senior students and postdoctoral fellows. Such findings suggest that it is vital that all individuals (faculty, researchers, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students) develop effective mentoring skills. In this session, participants will explore and discuss what mentoring is as well as review and apply several tools that enable an individual to employ an equity-minded approach to the mentoring enterprise.
