Nomination Deadline is Today for the 2026 Laney Graduate School Awards
Today is the last day to submit nominations for the 2026 Laney Graduate School Awards, which honor LGS students, faculty, staff, and alumni who demonstrate exceptional scholarship, leadership, service, and community impact.
Nominations should be 200–500 words unless otherwise noted in the award description.
Award winners will be notified in March 2026, and honorees will be celebrated at the LGS Awards Ceremony in April.

3MT Submissions Close Next Friday
The final day to submit a preliminary application for the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) and Master’s Showcase competition is 12 p.m., Friday, January 30. Laney Graduate School students who have yet to finalize their presentations are encouraged to submit their applications by the noon deadline.
The 3MT and Master’s Showcase competition is an excellent opportunity for graduate students to develop essential public speaking skills, gain recognition, and compete for prizes.

Call for Halle Graduate Global Fellows
The Halle Institute for Global Research and Learning in collaboration with Laney Graduate School has launched the 2026 Graduate Global Research Fellows program for LGS PhD students in the pre-candidacy stage.
Students from all research traditions and LGS divisions conducting research outside of the United States or for transitional projects where most of the research occurs outside of the United States are encouraged to apply.
Compensation: This program will fund up to twelve grants with maximum awards of $5, 000 / grant

AAAS Catalyzing Advocacy in Science and Engineering (CASE) Workshop
Laney Graduate School is sponsoring three student participants to attend the AAAS Catalyzing Advocacy in Science and Engineering (CASE) Workshop. The CASE workshop is an exciting opportunity to learn from science policy and advocacy experts about the role of science in policymaking and the federal policy-making process. It empowers participants with ways to become a voice for research throughout their careers.

F-1 Graduate Students: Has your stipend/funding source changed?
If you are a graduate student and your funding source/stipend has changed from Emory University to an external source, please discuss this update with your ISSS advisor no later than January 21, 2026.
Your advisor will work with you to update your I-20 Financial Information section and determine if work authorization is needed.

International Community Friday Lunch, Starting January 30
The purpose of these events is to extend a warm welcome, share helpful resources from our sponsors, and create a space for the international community to gather over free lunches. International Community Friday Lunch (ICFL) is a long-standing collaboration between the Office of Spiritual and Religious Life (OSRL) and International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS).
To ensure we are best serving active participants, the first 100 students and scholars who arrive for ICFL will be served. We encourage you to get there as early as possible to enjoy this very popular program.
