Opportunities New Course! Spring 2021 Course: Reducing Drug-Related Harms using Big Data: Administrative, Geospatial and Network Data Sources (GRAD 700R / BSHE 760R) This course will prepare students to conduct ethical, rigorous, and theoretically-informed analyses of three types of “big data” (administrative, geospatial, and social network data) in the context of research and interventions into intersecting crises of substance use disorders (SUDs) and drug-related harms. It will apply the strengths of social and behavioral sciences – including a focus on theory and validity – to the emerging field of advanced data analytics.
New! LinkedIn: The Missing Manual The LGS Office of Professional Development and Career Planning is pleased to announce our new Emory license to the online course LinkedIn: The Missing Manual.
Using LinkedIn effectively can make an important difference in researching opportunities, communicating with employers, and professional networking. LGS partnered with the Office of Postdoctoral Education to purchase a one-year institutional subscription to a complete, step-by-step online course on mastering LinkedIn. This is the only guide to LinkedIn created by former LinkedIn employees.

Confronting Negative Career Beliefs and Building Resiliency The Career Beliefs inventory helps participants get “unstuck” in the career planning process by identifying assumptions and beliefs that might be blocking progress. Learn to take action based on new career beliefs and strategies to deal with setbacks and challenges as they arise.
Upcoming! Student Loan Repayment Options There are many changes and uncertainties related to student loans and student loan repayment, especially with the implementation of the C.A.R.E.S. Act. The Office of Financial Aid will hold one-on-one virtual meetings to ensure that LGS students understand all of the options available to them before and after they begin repayment.
Upcoming! Sci PhD: Business of Science - How to Land Your First Job SciPhD is back by popular demand! This webinar series trains graduate students in STEM fields with the skills necessary to pursue industry careers and beyond. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend all three sessions. Attendees will also receive a license to an online tool (Flamingo) that allows users to apply skills learned in the webinar.
New! NIH NRSA F30/F31 Workshop: PhD and MD/PhD students Please join the Zoom workshop on how to get your F30/F31 application submitted from Emory to NIH. Registrants will receive an email with the Zoom meeting link approximately one hour before the workshop begins.

Deadline Approaching ! Work Opportunity: Science Comms. Associate The Chemistry Department seeks a graduate student worker for the 2020-2021 school year. The Science Communications Associate will help develop communications for the department, including blog posts and social media. Candidates do not need to pursue a science degree; however, an interest in science is a bonus. Candidates must be strong writers/editors. The position is part-time at $15/hour.
Laney Graduate School Completion Fellowships The Laney Graduate School and several Emory partners offer fellowships to advanced graduate students. One-on-One Career Coaching
Laney Graduate Writing Group Join the weekly graduate student writing group to keep yourself accountable, make progress, and obtain feedback on your projects.
For the first hour, you will write for two 25-minute intervals using the Pomodoro technique. In the second hour, you will have the opportunity to receive feedback on your writing, via Zoom, with a member of either the Emory Writing Center or the English Language Support Program (ELSP).
Library Appointments Available to Faculty and Graduate Students Emory Libraries are available to support your research needs.
LGS Virtual Office Hours: The LGS staff will host virtual office hours for graduate students. Contact the team member below to confirm an appointment and receive a Zoom link.
Emory CAPS Emory University's Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) will host virtual sessions to help students navigate the challenging times.
Emory Writing Center Consultations The Emory Writing Center supports a range of projects, including seminar papers, dissertation chapters, conference proposals, articles, posters, grants, job application materials, and teaching documents. Students are required to review fall 2020 procedures before scheduling a consultation. Learn about more writing resources for graduate students by visiting their LGS Support website.
The Emory Community Hub The Emory Community Hub pulls together all of the ways students can connect in-person or online. Graduate students can find ways to get involved, find support, and broaden their network.
Remote Teaching Resources New Updates! LGS students serving as teaching assistants and teaching associates may attend webinars and utilize teaching resources for virtual environments.
