New Course! Spring 2021 Course: Reducing Drug-Related Harms using Big Data: Administrative, Geospatial and Network Data Sources (GRAD 700R / BSHE 760R)

This course will prepare students to conduct ethical, rigorous, and theoretically-informed analyses of three types of “big data” (administrative, geospatial, and social network data) in the context of research and interventions into intersecting crises of substance use disorders (SUDs) and drug-related harms. It will apply the strengths of social and behavioral sciences – including a focus on theory and validity – to the emerging field of advanced data analytics.

New! LinkedIn: The Missing Manual

The LGS Office of Professional Development and Career Planning is pleased to announce our new Emory license to the online course LinkedIn: The Missing Manual.

Using LinkedIn effectively can make an important difference in researching opportunities, communicating with employers, and professional networking. LGS partnered with the Office of Postdoctoral Education to purchase a one-year institutional subscription to a complete, step-by-step online course on mastering LinkedIn. This is the only guide to LinkedIn created by former LinkedIn employees.

How to Access: Normally $99 per person, this resource is FREE for Emory affiliates. Go to the course website, click the Enroll button, and create an account using your Emory email address.

New! Confronting Negative Career Beliefs and Building Resiliency

The Career Beliefs inventory helps participants get “unstuck” in the career planning process by identifying assumptions and beliefs that might be blocking progress. Learn to take action based on new career beliefs and strategies to deal with setbacks and challenges as they arise.

There are many changes and uncertainties related to student loans and student loan repayment, especially with the implementation of the C.A.R.E.S. Act. Deadline Approaching ! Work Opportunity: Science Comms. Associate

The Chemistry Department seeks a graduate student worker for the 2020-2021 school year. The Science Communications Associate will help develop communications for the department, including blog posts and social media. Candidates do not need to pursue a science degree; however, an interest in science is a bonus. Candidates must be strong writers/editors. The position is part-time at $15/hour.

Laney Graduate Writing Group

Join the weekly graduate student writing group to keep yourself accountable, make progress, and obtain feedback on your projects.

For the first hour, you will write for two 25-minute intervals using the Pomodoro technique. In the second hour, you will have the opportunity to receive feedback on your writing, via Zoom, with a member of either the Emory Writing Center or the English Language Support Program (ELSP).
