Opportunities New! Laney Graduate School Completion Fellowships The Laney Graduate School and several Emory partners offer fellowships to advanced graduate students. Information on the fellowship guidelines for AY21-22 is now available. Interested and eligible doctoral students should visit the Advanced Fellowships page on the LGS website for the latest information.
New! Zero to Hero Career Success Phase 1: What's the Job? The workshop will help participants identify career pathways that are the best fit for their interests, evaluate their current skills and experiences as a match, and build a plan to get there.
New! National Humanities Center Graduate Student Winter Residency Programs The Mellon Humanities PhD Interventions Project will support doctoral students’ participation in the National Humanities Center Remote Winter Residency Programs. The Mellon Interventions Project will support up to ten doctoral students for the residency program, “How to Create Meaningful Online Experiences,” and up to six doctoral students for the residency program, “Podcasting the Humanities: Creating Digital Stories for the Public.” Interested students should read the call for applications below and submit their materials by the deadline.
New! Virtual Dissertation Boot Camp Open to Laney Graduate Students, this virtual boot camp is an opportunity for graduate students to work on their projects virtually for three hours. Attendees can set and share writing goals.

TATTO extension: Tips and Strategies for International Teaching Assistants This session is designed for international TAs who are teaching assistants this academic year (Fall 2020, Spring 2021, and Summer 2021). It will cover the key topics of US classroom culture, cultural communication, and strategies for success, including useful phrases for asking & answering questions, asking for clarification, and giving feedback and corrections. This workshop aims to ensure that participants develop a firm understanding of the skills needed to ensure greater success with facilitating courses in English.
Mellon Humanities PhD Interventions Project Info Session Please join us for the first remote session of Fall 2020 for the Mellon Humanities PhD Interventions Project. We will discuss current programming and future plans of the Mellon Interventions Project as well as provide guidance for graduate students who will be applying for the Mellon Interventions Public Scholarship Teaching Fellowship for AY21-22.
Deadline Approaching! Apply to Team Teach IDS 220: What Does It Mean To Be Human? This course, offered every spring through the Institute for the Liberal Arts, is taught by graduate student instructors from the humanities, social sciences, and the sciences, under the guidance of two ILA faculty mentors (Robyn Fivush and Kim Loudermilk). As part of an interdisciplinary teaching team, participants will learn methodological and pedagogical approaches that will continue to inform your teaching throughout your career. Selected students will receive a $2,000 stipend.
Deadline Approaching! Jones Program in Ethics (JPE): Mini-Grants The Jones Program in Ethics is pleased to announce a series of mini-grants for Laney Graduate School PhD student research projects. A successful proposal will highlight particular ways your project engages in ethics. This could include, but is not limited to, a philosophical question, a pragmatic application, or a challenge to, or support of, cultural and societal norms. These grants will be awarded to individuals or groups who are engaged in the stated research project.

One-on-One Career Coaching
Laney Graduate Writing Group Join the weekly graduate student writing group to keep yourself accountable, make progress, and obtain feedback on your projects.
For the first hour, you will write for two 25-minute intervals using the Pomodoro technique. In the second hour, you will have the opportunity to receive feedback on your writing, via Zoom, with a member of either the Emory Writing Center or the English Language Support Program (ELSP).
Library Appointments Available to Faculty and Graduate Students Emory Libraries are available to support your research needs.
LGS Virtual Office Hours: The LGS staff will host virtual office hours for graduate students. Please contact the team member below to confirm an appointment and receive a Zoom link.
Emory CAPS Emory University's Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) will host virtual sessions to help students navigate the challenging times.
Emory Writing Center Consultations The Emory Writing Center supports a range of projects, including seminar papers, dissertation chapters, conference proposals, articles, posters, grants, job application materials, and teaching documents. Students are required to review fall 2020 procedures before scheduling a consultation. Learn about more writing resources for graduate students by visiting their LGS Support website.
The Emory Community Hub The Emory Community Hub pulls together all of the ways students can connect in-person or online. Graduate students can find ways to get involved, find support, and broaden their network.
Remote Teaching Resources LGS students serving as teaching assistants and teaching associates may attend webinars and utilize teaching resources for virtual environments listed below. Zoom Class Engagement Workshop Series The CFDE is offering a Workshop Series on “Zoom Class Engagement,” that provides extra support for instructors and TAs who are planning engaging learning activities in Zoom class settings. One-on-one feedback on existing teaching projects will be available to attendees. Participants should come with an idea in mind and a class session to work on developing.
Workshops in the series are offered twice at various times/dates.
