Opportunities Deadline Approaching! Kharen Fulton Award for Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement in Graduate Education The Kharen Fulton Award was created to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Kharen Fulton and her dedication to diversity in graduate education. This LGS Diversity Award will be presented to one LGS doctoral scholar to acknowledge his or her personal and professional efforts towards diversity, inclusion, and community engagement in the Laney Graduate School at Emory University. Award recipients will receive a framed citation and an award prize of $2,000. The award announcement will take place during the October 2020 celebratory recognition of Laney EDGE Fellowship Recipients.
Deadline Approaching! Confronting Negative Career Beliefs The Career Beliefs inventory can help you get “unstuck” in the career planning process by identifying assumptions and beliefs that might be blocking progress. This process helps to examine current beliefs, process and release negative beliefs and emotions, and determining new actions that can be taken based on new beliefs. Learn strategies to deal with setbacks and challenges as they arise.
New! Exploring Diverse Career Paths - Humanities & Social Sciences In this virtual workshop, you will learn how to research potential employers of various types and advocate for themselves by communicating with individuals on the inside.
New! Zero to Hero Career Success Phase 1: What's the Job? The workshop will help participants identify career pathways that are the best fit for their interests, evaluate their current skills and experiences as a match, and build a plan to get there.

TATTO extension: Tips and Strategies for International Teaching Assistants This session is designed for international TAs who are teaching assistants this academic year (Fall 2020, Spring 2021, and Summer 2021). It will cover the key topics of US classroom culture, cultural communication, and strategies for success, including useful phrases for asking & answering questions, asking for clarification, and giving feedback and corrections. This workshop aims to ensure that participants develop a firm understanding of the skills needed to ensure greater success with facilitating courses in English.
Transforming Research 2020 Conference The Woodruff Health Sciences Center Library is the virtual host for this year’s Transforming Research Conference. This meeting will advance conversations on research policy, evaluation, portfolio management, funding, dissemination, and impact. Mellon Humanities PhD Interventions Project Info Session Please join us for the first remote session of Fall 2020 for the Mellon Humanities PhD Interventions Project. We will discuss current programming and future plans of the Mellon Interventions Project as well as provide guidance for graduate students who will be applying for the Mellon Interventions Public Scholarship Teaching Fellowship for AY21-22.
Jones Program in Ethics (JPE): Mini-Grants The Jones Program in Ethics is pleased to announce a series of mini-grants for Laney Graduate School PhD student research projects. A successful proposal will highlight particular ways your project engages in ethics. This could include, but is not limited to, a philosophical question, a pragmatic application, or a challenge to, or support of, cultural and societal norms. These grants will be awarded to individuals or groups who are engaged in the stated research project.

Laney Graduate Writing Group Join the weekly graduate student writing group to keep yourself accountable, make progress, and obtain feedback on your projects.
For the first hour, you will write for two 25-minute intervals using the Pomodoro technique. In the second hour, you will have the opportunity to receive feedback on your writing, via Zoom, with a member of either the Emory Writing Center or the English Language Support Program (ELSP).
Library Appointments Available to Faculty and Graduate Students Emory Libraries are available to support your research needs.

Emory CAPS Emory University's Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) will host virtual sessions to help students navigate the challenging times.
Emory Writing Center Consultations The Emory Writing Center supports a range of projects, including seminar papers, dissertation chapters, conference proposals, articles, posters, grants, job application materials, and teaching documents. The Emory Community Hub The Emory Community Hub pulls together all of the ways students can connect in-person or online. Graduate students can find ways to get involved, find support, and broaden their network.

The CFDE is offering a Workshop Series on “Zoom Class Engagement,” that provides extra support for instructors and TAs who are planning engaging learning activities in Zoom class settings. One-on-one feedback on existing teaching projects will be available to attendees. Participants should come with an idea in mind and a class session to work on developing.
