Director of Graduate Studies named as one of New Voices leaders The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine’s New Voices in Sciences, Engineering and Medicine program named Eri Saikawa, one of Emory University's faculty, to its 2024 cohort of emerging leaders. Saikawa is a Winship Distinguished Research Professor of environmental sciences serving as director of graduate studies and of Emory Climate Talks. Her lab’s discovery of high lead levels in the soil of some Westside Atlanta residences led to federal cleanup efforts. Her research focuses on quantifying the sources and the magnitude of emissions linked to air pollution and climate change, and their societal impacts. |

Emory Global Student Travel Support Global education is an essential component of the student experience in a progressively interconnected world. Yet, limited access and lack of financial resources prevent many students from these opportunities. The Global Student Travel Support is a university wide initiative, led by Atlanta Global Partnerships in the Office of Global Strategy and Initiatives, that seeks to address this need by providing stipends for students who have exhausted available Emory resources to undertake an Emory-supported global educational experience. Supported travel related global educational experiences may include, and not limited to, independent study or existing Emory programs such as study abroad, fellowships, conferences, internships, workshops, seminars, archival research, field research, other research, and educational collaborations.
Students may apply for funding up to $1200. Additional funding will be considered based on students’ demonstrated need or request and available funding. Students must demonstrate that they have sought all other available resources at Emory and indicate the need for additional funds. Students who identify as being from historically excluded groups/under-represented minorities are strongly encouraged to apply.
Eligibility: - Applicants must be currently enrolled Emory students (includes graduate and undergraduate).
- Applicants must be in good academic standing.
- Applicants must receive financial aid. Undergraduate and graduate international students who are receiving need based financial funding are also eligible on a case-by-case basis and are encouraged to apply.
The funds must be spent on academic travel-related expenses only.
Applicants who have previously applied to the Emory Free U.S. Passport Initiative will receive priority.

Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Interested in sharing the significance of your research with a wider audience, strengthening your communication skills, and expanding your network? Consider participating in Laney Graduate School's Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) Competition, an academic competition in which graduate students deliver a compelling presentation to a non-specialist audience in three minutes or less.
Participants are ordinarily in later years of study but are not required to be at the defense stage as long as they have reached a point in their research where they have some conclusions to share.
Curious students are also invited to participate in a preparation workshop, “Communicating Your Research: A Workshop on Storytelling” on Tuesday, February 6 from 3:30-5:00pm. This workshop is not limited to 3MT participants; all LGS students are welcome (space allowing).

The Hatchery Summer Accelerator The Hatchery's summer program, The Hatchery Summer Accelerator, is open to ALL undergraduate and graduate students, regardless of academic concentration. This accelerated, hands-on summer program is offered to student founders with nonprofit or for-profit ventures from ideation through launch stage. The Summer Incubator will run from approximately May 15 to July 30. David R. Scott Graduate Assistant
The Emory Center for Digital Scholarship is looking to hire a graduate assistant through the David R. Scott Fund. This fund is used for the purpose of providing support to LGS students in the form of graduate research assistant positions. The Apollo 15 Learning Hub graduate research assistant’s responsibilities will include supporting the development the Apollo 15 Learning Hub, an online resource with the objective of assembling, preserving, and making available primary source records of Apollo for research, education, history, and as an example of a unique human endeavor. The graduate assistant will also support the development of a website for the Astronaut Families project, based on research being conducted by Dr. Tracy L. Scott. This award is named and endowed by the Robert Earl McConnell Foundation to honor current Emory University faculty and staff who have significantly enriched the intellectual and civic life of the Emory community. The award honors a member of the faculty or staff for significant service to Emory through personal activities, influence, and leadership, usually over the course of many years. Emory Libraries Summer Internship Program (3 PAID positions available) Emory Libraries is now accepting applications for three distinct summer internships within its Access and Resources Services Division for Summer 2024. The Internships are open to current and recent graduates of ALA-accredited Library and Information Science degree programs, pre-program and current graduate conservation degree programs, and graduate students with an interest in librarianship. These internships are designed to give hands-on experience in an academic library setting. The Access and Resource Services Division is responsible for the acquisition, description, circulation, delivery, preservation, and digitization of library resources in all formats. Announcing the 2024 ACLS Leading Edge Fellowship Competition The American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) are pleased to announce the 2024 competition of the Leading Edge Fellowship program. The ACLS Leading Edge Fellowship program aims to demonstrate the potential of humanistic knowledge and methods to solve problems, build capacity, and advance social justice and equity. The fellowships support recent PhDs in the humanities and interpretive social sciences as they work with social justice organizations across the country. Hosting organizations provide professional development opportunities and employee benefits to fellows, and draw on fellows’ scholarly perspectives and broad set of skills. Fellows receive a stipend of $70,000 for the first year, $72,000 in the second, and have access to funds and opportunities for professional development through ACLS and our alumni network. This initiative is made possible through the support of the Mellon Foundation.
