The Ridge: New On-Campus Graduate Housing Opened to Emory Students
What's new: The Ridge housing integrates two primary needs highlighted during Emory University’s master planning: a lack of graduate housing on Emory’s core campus and a space for Emory graduate students to gather and support community building.
“This housing initiative has amplified the importance of graduate and professional students on campus, bringing visibility to their contributions to our community and intentionally creating space for creative and interdisciplinary collisions,” said Kimberly Jacob Arriola, dean of the James T. Laney School of Graduate Studies and vice provost for graduate affairs.

Student Union Collective Bargaining Update
Emory University and SEIU Workers United, Southern Region Local 29, held a productive collective bargaining session on August 12, 2024. During this session, the parties made progress on several key issues.
The University responded to the Union's proposals on the following topics:
- Non-Discrimination: This provision addresses the shared goal of ensuring a non-discriminatory work environment for all members of the Emory community.
- Workspace: This provision covers access to facilities and materials needed to perform bargaining unit work and addresses issues around flexibility and accessibility.
- Parking: The parties continue to discuss parking and transportation, as well as opportunities for bargaining unit members to have input into these issues.
In addition to these responses, the Union presented new proposals for consideration, including (1) Retirement Savings, (2) Evaluations and Feedback, (3) Training, and (4) Continuity of Funding.
These discussions reflect a continued commitment from both Emory University and SEIU Workers United to work toward negotiating a fair and comprehensive collective bargaining agreement. Further updates will be provided as negotiations progress.

Calls Open: Halle Institute for Global Research, Collaborative Research Grants with University of Bonn and University of St Andrews
Collaborative Research Grants are open to regular, continuing, and full-time faculty from all Emory schools and disciplines. Applicants are encouraged to submit proposals for innovative collaborative research projects that link Emory with faculty from University of Bonn and University of St Andrews.
Research may take place in any country or region as long as it is done collaboratively. Project outcomes may include publications, external funding, and/or other forms of research-based activity.

PAID Teaching Assistant Positions – Qualitative Data Analysis Fall 2024 Semester, Rollins School of Public Health
We are seeking three graduate student Teaching Assistants for two courses on Qualitative Data Analysis for this upcoming Fall 2024 semester in the Rollins School of Public Health. These are paid positions. Applicants must have experience in qualitative data analysis and be familiar with the software program MAXQDA. TA duties include assisting in weekly lab sessions with MAXQDA, giving written feedback on assignments, managing the course site on Canvas and assisting the instructor with class administrative tasks.
When: Mondays, 1 - 4 p.m. (Section 1) | Tuesdays, 1 - 4 p.m. (Section 2). TAs only need to be available for one course section.

Mirzayan Fellowship Application Now Open!
Applications for the 2025 Christine Mirzayan Science and Technology Policy Graduate Fellowship Program is now open. We are seeking current graduate students or recent graduates who are interested in exploring career options in science policy. A typical candidate is in the final years of their PhD program or has defended their thesis within the past five years, and is excited to spend time in D.C., learn about science policy, and network with science and technology policy experts. This year's Fellowship will run from March 3 - May 23, 2025.
