Tips from the Other Side of the Peer-Review Process to Help Get Your Scientific Manuscript Published
Please join CFDE as Bruce G. Weniger, adjunct associate professor in Rollins School of Public Health, presents Tips for the Other Side of the Peer-Review Process. To paraphrase Churchill, the peer-review process is a most flawed and imperfect filter to achieve publication, but it beats the alternatives. This two-part presentation provides tips, examples, and anecdotes from the past experience of a journal editor (Elsevier’s Vaccine) to ease the burden and overcome the skepticism of busy, volunteer peer reviewers who must use both conscious criteria and subjective, often unconscious intuition to judge the worthiness for publication of your work using only the manuscript and revision cover letters provided them.
When: April 18 | 12 – 1 p.m.
April 25 | 12 – 1 .p.m

Interdisciplinary Workshop in Colonial and Postcolonial Studies
The Interdisciplinary Workshop in Colonial and Postcolonial Studies invites the Emory community to the next event in this semester's seminar series. Dr. Akeel Bilgrami will present "Gandhi (and Ambedkar) on Caste."
When: On Thursday, April 4 | 4 - 5:30 p.m.
Where: Major Room, Bowden Hall 323
Dr. Bilgrami will seek to situate Gandhi’s views on caste as well as his disagreements with Ambedkar within the framework of Gandhi and Ambedkar’s differing views on the inevitability and scope of both liberal modernity and the capitalist economic formation to which the liberal notion of the state are tied. He will consider the ambivalences into which he was forced on caste by Ambedkar’s skillful appeal to these emerging liberal institutions under colonial rule.
Dr. Bilgrami's paper will be circulated ten days before the seminar event.
All are welcome.
