On the heels of a successful first year of The Hatchery Incubator and a competitive application process, The Hatchery announced the first cohort for the Hatchery Summer Incubator.

This summer program will accelerate the progress of 11 participating ventures through weekly workshops focused on skills for entrepreneurship and innovation, one-to-one coaching with The Hatchery staff and mentoring from Atlanta industry leaders. In addition, each student founder has the opportunity to be paid for up to 40 hours of work on their venture each week.

The Hatchery supports student innovators and entrepreneurs from all Emory schools, including LGS. 

New Songbird Research May Inform How Children Learn to Speak

A new study by neuroscientists at LGS and Emory finds that the social process of young male zebra finches and how they learn to sing holds some similarities for how children learn to speak. The birds have become a laboratory model for the neural underpinnings of social vocal learning.

“It’s basic science that may lead to insights into the process of vocal learning across the animal kingdom, including humans," says Natalie Pilgeram, first author of the study and PhD candidate in psychology.

Summer Internship Opportunity: Clarkston Small Business Support Community Ambassadors (SBSCA) Program

The Amani Business Support Summer Intern is a part-time (10 hours per week), paid position that will support the design and implementation of the SBSCA Program. The Intern will work closely with both the Amani Women Center and Goizueta’s Business and Society Institute on a variety of activities including training preparation, resource guide curation, group meeting logistics, marketing / communications, and direct support of participating entrepreneurs.

Building Future Faculty in STEM Program

The Building Future Faculty in STEM program is a comprehensive four-day program for scholars from historically underrepresented groups in STEM to experience an introduction to the particulars of a faculty career in STEM. Participants will engage with junior and senior faculty and administration from participating institutions to learn the keys to prepare for a successful academic career.

Call for Graduate Assistants for the ACLS Intention Foundry

This June 21-23, the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) will hold a special series of workshops on campus titled the 2023 ACLS Intention Foundry on Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Anti-racism in the academy.  They are seeking three graduate student assistants to serve as notetakers during the sessions. There will be a $750 honorarium.

Asynchronous Online Course for Pedagogy and Remote Teaching: EFOT

Emory Foundations for Online Teaching (EFOT) is a professional development opportunity for graduate students offered through a joint partnership between the Center for Faculty Development and Excellence and the Emory Center for Digital Scholarship. Emory graduate students from any school are welcome to enroll. EFOT introduces best practices for online teaching and is designed for graduate students who are preparing to TA or teach partially or wholly in an online environment. All course sessions use Canvas, and the participant learns from the point of view of an online student. Students can learn on their own pace, but are required to attend at least two synchronous online sessions during the six-week period.

Call for Applications: The ATLANTIS Program

The ATLANTIS Program is currently accepting applications from pre- and postdoctoral trainees engaged in research related or relevant to nephrology, urology, and non-malignant hematology. The program is designed to train the next generation of kidney, urology, and hematology health scientists, and cultivates a vibrant network of mentors, mentees, and leaders in the field.

Summer Job Opportunities in Athletics & Recreation

Emory Athletics and Recreation is hiring for the summer. Positions available include facility attendants that support operations at either the Woodruff P.E. Center or the Student Academic and Activity Center, member services attendants that provide departmental information and respond to member questions and inquiries, fitness attendants that oversee our fitness equipment and floor, and summer camp counselors that engage with 5- to 12-year-old campers during the month of June. Assistant Program Coordinator Position with The Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations

The Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations seeks a graduate student for a one-year assignment as Assistant Program Coordinator. The position will expose you to core focus areas including: landscape analysis of research and program within Emory; evaluation of new research and programs, including scientific, market, and intellectual property research as well as legal contract processes and some experience with creating material for external and internal outreach while understanding how to position the university with key stakeholders.

Editorial Assistant/Social Media Lead Job Opportunity

A new journal launching this spring: Intersections: The Education Journal of the Woodruff Health Sciences Center is in need of an Editorial Assistant/Social Media Lead. The EA/SML will be responsible for reviewing all accepted manuscripts to ensure that they meet journal style guidelines and are formatted appropriately for publication, and for uploading final manuscripts and all the associated materials into WordPress in order to publish them to the journal website. In addition, the EA/SML will publicize all new additions to Intersections through the journal’s social media and lead efforts to enhance the journal’s social media presence and reach. The EA/SML will be an integral part of the Intersections team and will attend regular editorial meetings and report on their work to the rest of the team.

Fall Internships Available - Emory’s Office of Technology Transfer (OTT)

The OTT is now accepting applications for fall interns (deadline June 30). These internships will help prepare students for career alternatives outside of a traditional research lab by balancing formal training in technology transfer, marketing, intellectual property protection, licensing, and contracts with projects that expose interns to the day-to-day workings of a technology transfer office. Student Intervention Services Responder Recruitment

Campus Life’s Student Intervention Services is seeking new SIS Responders to join the SIS team. Students who are second year graduate students and beyond are encouraged to join the team. The SIS Crisis On-Call Team is staffed 24/7 and responds to students’ active crises. SIS is housed under Student Case Management and Intervention Services (SCMIS). SIS responder training will be provided during the summer. Overview of SIS Team: Compensation provided; Student Intervention Services (SIS) consists of campus life professionals; 24/7 crisis on-call rotation to support Emory University students; and SIS Team Responders receive ongoing training and support.

Graduate Community of Digital Scholars 2023-24 Cohort

The Graduate Community of Digital Scholars—a joint program of the Fox Center for Humanistic Inquiry, the Emory Center for Digital Scholarship, and the Digital Publishing in the Humanities initiative—offers structured support, connections to training opportunities, and access to funding for PhD students in the humanities and other humanistic fields who are developing digital and/or public-facing dissertations and research projects. It is currently accepting applications for the 2023-24 cohort. The first meeting of the new cohort will take place in September 2023.
