Laney Graduate School (LGS) honored LGS excellence at the 2nd annual Dean’s Address & Awards Reception on May 2, 2023.
“There is no other unit within Emory University that is as well-poised as Laney to help fulfill Emory's mission, which is to create, preserve, teach, and apply knowledge in the service of humanity,” said Dean Kimberly Jacob Arriola in the State of the School address. Dean Arriola shared LGS’s strategic goals, presented priorities for moving graduate education at Emory forward, and described notable advancements at Laney over the course of the year. “The state of the Laney Graduate School is healthy, resilient, and strong. But this is only because of the people, processes, and priorities that define us,” said Dean Arriola.
Following Dean Arriola’s remarks, the evening transitioned to an awards ceremony that celebrated exemplary students, faculty, staff, and alumni who embody the School’s mission. |

Asynchronous Online Course for Pedagogy and Remote Teaching: EFOT
Emory Foundations for Online Teaching (EFOT) is a professional development opportunity for graduate students offered through a joint partnership between the Center for Faculty Development and Excellence and the Emory Center for Digital Scholarship. Emory graduate students from any school are welcome to enroll. EFOT introduces best practices for online teaching and is designed for graduate students who are preparing to TA or teach partially or wholly in an online environment. All course sessions use Canvas, and the participant learns from the point of view of an online student. Students can learn on their own pace, but are required to attend at least two synchronous online sessions during the six-week period.

The ATLANTIS Program is currently accepting applications from pre- and postdoctoral trainees engaged in research related or relevant to nephrology, urology, and non-malignant hematology. The program is designed to train the next generation of kidney, urology, and hematology health scientists, and cultivates a vibrant network of mentors, mentees, and leaders in the field.

Summer Job Opportunities in Athletics & Recreation
Emory Athletics and Recreation is hiring for the summer. Positions available include facility attendants that support operations at either the Woodruff P.E. Center or the Student Academic and Activity Center, member services attendants that provide departmental information and respond to member questions and inquiries, fitness attendants that oversee our fitness equipment and floor, and summer camp counselors that engage with 5- to 12-year-old campers during the month of June. Editorial Assistant/Social Media Lead Job Opportunity
A new journal launching this spring: Intersections: The Education Journal of the Woodruff Health Sciences Center is in need of an Editorial Assistant/Social Media Lead. The EA/SML will be responsible for reviewing all accepted manuscripts to ensure that they meet journal style guidelines and are formatted appropriately for publication, and for uploading final manuscripts and all the associated materials into WordPress in order to publish them to the journal website. In addition, the EA/SML will publicize all new additions to Intersections through the journal’s social media and lead efforts to enhance the journal’s social media presence and reach. The EA/SML will be an integral part of the Intersections team and will attend regular editorial meetings and report on their work to the rest of the team.

Student Intervention Services Responder Recruitment
Campus Life’s Student Intervention Services is seeking new SIS Responders to join the SIS team. Students who are second year graduate students and beyond are encouraged to join the team. The SIS Crisis On-Call Team is staffed 24/7 and responds to students’ active crises. SIS is housed under Student Case Management and Intervention Services (SCMIS). SIS responder training will be provided during the summer. Overview of SIS Team: Compensation provided; Student Intervention Services (SIS) consists of campus life professionals; 24/7 crisis on-call rotation to support Emory University students; and SIS Team Responders receive ongoing training and support.

Fall Internships Available - Emory’s Office of Technology Transfer (OTT)
The OTT is now accepting applications for fall interns (deadline June 30). These internships will help prepare students for career alternatives outside of a traditional research lab by balancing formal training in technology transfer, marketing, intellectual property protection, licensing, and contracts with projects that expose interns to the day-to-day workings of a technology transfer office. Teaching Assistant for QTM 100: Intro to Statistical Inference
The Department of Quantitative Theory and Methods (QTM) is recruiting teaching assistants for Fall 2023 to support QTM 100: Intro to Statistical Inference. TAs instruct one weekly lab section, attend weekly TA meetings, supervise an undergraduate teaching assistant, and provide general course support. New QTM 100 TAs are expected to attend lectures. The position requires 10-15 hours effort per week, and compensation is $2,625 per semester. Knowledge of introductory statistics is required (e.g., basic probability, t-tests, chi-squared tests, ANOVA, linear regression); knowledge of R and previous teaching experience are preferred but not required. Graduate Community of Digital Scholars 2023-24 Cohort
The Graduate Community of Digital Scholars—a joint program of the Fox Center for Humanistic Inquiry, the Emory Center for Digital Scholarship, and the Digital Publishing in the Humanities initiative—offers structured support, connections to training opportunities, and access to funding for PhD students in the humanities and other humanistic fields who are developing digital and/or public-facing dissertations and research projects. It is currently accepting applications for the 2023-24 cohort. The first meeting of the new cohort will take place in September 2023.
