Reminder: Emory University international travel policy requires all Emory-sponsored international travel to be approved by the student’s school of enrollment. For LGS students, all Emory-related international travel, regardless of funding source (e.g., PDS award, program funding, etc.), MUST be approved through the LGS International Travel Permission Form.

Join Emory's office of Global Strategy and Initiatives (GSI) in an event to honor the legacy of Archbishop Desmond Tutu. In true Tutu fashion, this transformative celebration is designed to promote healing, resolution and peace.

Suicide Prevention: A Community Effort 

Emory's Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) team will be hosting a new suicide prevention training video viewing and strategy discussion for supporting people in distress at Harland Cinema.

LGS Dean Kimberly Jacob Arriola is hosting office hours each month for LGS students. All LGS students are welcome – just come to the Dean’s Office (Administration Building, Suite 202) during office hours, sign in upon arrival, and you’ll be able to meet with the Dean individually. The Dean will meet with students in order of arrival. We will offer light refreshments in the office while you wait.

New! Making Pandemics Film Screening

 In this documentary, actress Juliette Binoche seeks to understand the causes of this “epidemic of pandemics”. She meets with scientists from around the world to understand the links between human health and the health of ecosystems.

The 100-minute film will be screened in French with English subtitles, and followed by a discussion and Q&A with Dr. Thomas R. Gillespie (featured in the film), Professor of Environmental Sciences & Environmental Health at Emory University & Rollins School of Public Health.

Join us for the third session of the Laney Wellness Series: Self Care as a Graduate Student. During this session, Cayla Leung and Amara Chukwunenye from Emory’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) team will share information and strategies to help graduate students take the best possible care of themselves.

 Graduate Women's Writing Group

The Center for Women at Emory will be hosting a Graduate Writing Group every Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The writing group utilizes the Pomodoro Method and accountability partners to manage specific academic goals and build community. Refreshments are provided. Registration closes September 29th. 

National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Graduate Fellowship Program Information Session

The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) is holding an information session to discuss their Graduate Fellowship Program.

The fellowship is a 12-month, salaried position working with NNSA program offices in Washington D.C. or at one of the NNSA site locations nationwide.

Your CV is an essential component of your academic identity, but what should it contain? This workshop will discuss the difference between a CV and a resume and provide an overview of best practices for the construction of your academic CV including required and optional headings, formatting, organization, and tailoring.

New! Business Concepts Course for Life Scientists

Business Concepts for Life Scientists, a course from iBiology, will enhance PhD scientists’ understanding of foundational business concepts. This business coursework is unique because it is designed to prepare scientists for career transitions into both academic and non-academic settings.

Due to a limited number of slots available, graduate students and postdocs will be selected via a lottery system. Preference will be given to those who are able to commit to attending all four sessions.

Virginia Tech Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship Program Expands

Virginia Tech's Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship program has expanded to include four distinct tracks and opportunities. This program seeks to broadly prepare postdocs for the next step in their careers, providing a two-year appointment with nationally competitive salaries and benefits.

Postdoctoral fellows selected for the program will receive:

• Two-year appointments with nationally competitive salaries and benefits
• $10,000 for training and professional development-related expenses
• Mentoring and professional development support

Proposal Due Date: November 15 

LGS-PDCP Career Coaching Program – Fall 2022 Availability

We are excited to announce that our career coaching program has a limited number of appointments available this semester for graduate students who wish to think through their career planning with a professional coach! 

LGS Writing Group

Are you working on a writing project? If so, our supportive community of writers can help you get it done! Join our weekly graduate student writing group for two hours of dedicated writing time (using the pomodoro method) as well as the opportunity to obtain feedback from a Writing Center graduate tutor or an English Language Specialist, if desired. Come for 1 week or come for them all.

Let's Talk! Drop in Consultations for Emory Graduate & Professional Students

Let's Talk is an informal, free, confidential consultation service that allows graduate and professional students to speak with a clinician and receive support for any challenge they may be experiencing. Let's Talk is not a substitute for formal counselling but can be used to receive short-term support and resources.

Students will meet 1:1 for a 15-20 minute video or phone consultation with their CAPS consultant.

International Community Friday Lunch (ICFL) 

International Community Friday Lunch (ICFL) is a long-standing collaboration between the Office of Spiritual and Religious Life (OSRL) and International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS). The purpose of this gathering is to extend a warm welcome and build a community for international students and scholars while enjoying free lunch!   

ICFL occurs on Fridays from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in Cannon Chapel Brooks Commons. Meals are limited; therefore, please RSVP in advance for each week you will attend.

Azrieli International Postdoctoral Fellowship: Applications Now Open

The Azrieli International Postdoctoral Fellowship supports the best and brightest minds in their postdoctoral research, connecting them with world-class academics and leading researchers. The Fellowship provides generous funding for eligible international applicants to conduct research in any academic discipline at eligible institutions in Israel. Azrieli International Postdoctoral Fellowships are awarded without regard to religion, gender, age, or ethnicity.

The fellowship – now open to applicants from around the globe – offers funding of approximately EUR 58,000 (ILS 188,000) for 24 postdocs per year. 

Applications must be submitted by November 15, 2022.
