Laney Graduate Student Council 2022-2023 Elections & Candidate Meeting
LGS Students – It’s time for the 2022–2023 Laney Graduate Student Council (LGSC) Executive Board elections! Multiple officer positions are available, including President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Travel Treasurer, Social Chairs (2), Ticket Liaisons (2), and University Senate Representative. All officers receive a $500 stipend each semester. -
Candidate Information Meeting: March 15 at 10 a.m. via Zoom

Candidate Registration: Through March 18 via email; include your name, program and current year, position you are running for, a photo, and a candidate statement (250 words max.) written in the first-person explaining why you are seeking the position, why you are qualified, etc.

Dean’s Teaching Fellow Luke Hagemann will introduce Laney Graduate students to the practice of compassionate pedagogy. Participants will equip themselves with a framework for incorporating kindness into their course designs in order to make the classroom more accessible, supportive, and equitable. |
New! Cultivating a Language and Social Justice Praxis: Reflection, Dialogue and Action for Social Change
The Emory College Language Center (ECLC) welcomes Prof. Netta Avineri (Middlebury Institute for International Studies at Monterey) for talk on the relationship between language and social justice. Prof. Avineri’s research and teaching involves storytelling and intercultural competence, and she founded the Intercultural Digital Storytelling Project at MIIS. -

Does it feel like everyone else has a guide to grad school and you're just making things up as you go along? Many parts of grad school—especially key "transition" moments—have unspoken expectations (a “hidden curriculum”) that can be hard to decipher. Join Stanford Professor Tom Mullaney as he discusses two pivotal grad school transitions: the transition from coursework to dissertation research, and from "PhD Candidate" to "Early-Career Scholar" status. |
Empowering Interdisciplinary Teaching and Scholarships Workshop
Emory’s Institute for the Liberal Arts is hosting a workshop for doctoral students to learn core interdisciplinary pedagogical strategies for designing and teaching classes that will help students see connections in new ways, building critical thinking skills, and laying the foundations for new perspectives. The Office of LGBT Life invites you to attend the Annual Pride Awards. This event celebrates the achievements of LGBTQ students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members, while also commemorating the campus-wide protest that took place on March 2, 1992. The awards showcase the great work many people do behind the scenes for LGBTQ equality on Emory’s campus and on behalf of the Emory community.

Emory’s Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) invites graduate students to participate in the inaugural IHI case competition. Emory and Georgia Tech graduate students are challenged to think critically and present innovative solutions to a real-world healthcare problem with a chance to win cash. Join our weekly graduate student writing group (online via Zoom) for some dedicated writing time (through multiple pomodoros, i.e. focused writing intervals) as well as the opportunity to obtain feedback from a writing tutor if desired. Let’s Talk is an informal, free, and confidential consultation service that allows students to speak with a clinician and receive support for any challenge they may be experiencing. The Nat C. Robertson Endowment in Science & Society, in collaboration with the Institute for the Liberal Arts (ILA), requests applications for this inaugural year-long graduate student fellowship from September 1, 2022-August 31, 2023. The Sheila Carson Dissertation Completion Fellowship supports a student enrolled in the History doctoral program to finish their dissertation. The purpose of the Sheila Carson Dissertation Completion Fellowship is to support timely completion of Ph.D. work; it is designed for students whose work is far enough advanced so that completion and final approval of the dissertation during the academic year can be assured. |

The Laney Graduate School maintains a graduate student exchange program with the Freie Universität Berlin (FUB). The program seeks to promote strong academic and cultural ties between the two institutions. One student may be selected to represent Emory at the FUB for the 2022-23 academic year (October 1, 2022 - July 31, 2023). Selection is based on a competitive process. |
