Public Humanities @ Emory Presents: The Puck Project
If you are interested in exploring how the Public Humanities might fit into your research and graduate school experience, come hear three Emory English PhD Candidates discuss The Puck Project. The Puck Project is a Shakespeare performance and ethics summer camp program for K-6 students at Nicholas House, a shelter and support network for homeless families in metro Atlanta. Campers practice skills relevant to functioning within a community, formulating and expressing ideas as a team, reading and responding to the emotions of others, and accessing and attending to emotions in oneself.

Empowering Interdisciplinary Teaching and Scholarships Workshop
Emory’s
Institute for the Liberal Arts
is hosting a workshop for doctoral students to learn core interdisciplinary pedagogical strategies for designing and teaching classes that will help students see connections in new ways, building critical thinking skills, and laying the foundations for new perspectives. Participants will receive a $500 stipend for attending the workshop.

Grant Writing Coaching for Spring 2022
Laney Graduate School (LGS) is offering grant writing coaching to students in the humanities and social sciences who are preparing grant and fellowship applications. Students selected for this opportunity will receive one-to-one mentorship and feedback on their grant proposals from Dr. Corinne Kratz, Distinguished Professor of Anthropology and African Studies Emerita, a founder and long-time director of the Grant Writing Program. Please note that the two cycles indicated below are targeted for different groups. The Spring 2022 cycle is to serve students at any stage, and so they may submit a more generic proposal.

Emory is providing registration and travel funding for a limited number of graduate students to attend the Faculty Women of Color in the Academy (FWCA) National Conference. FWCA conference is a unique educational and professional opportunity for indigenous and women of color in higher education to network, engage, and learn with colleagues from around the country focused on leadership, career advancement, personal well-being, and scholar activism.

Learn how to effectively advocate for science in this 2-part science communication workshop with speaker Dr. Amy Sharma from Science for Georgia. In the first session, attendees will learn how to identify your topic, communicate effectively with your audience, and create a 2 – 3-minute advocacy pitch. In the second session, which will be in person, attendees will present their advocacy pitch, receive feedback, and learn tips about public speaking.

Leaders: Raise Money for Your Organization on Emory Day of Giving
Emory Day of Giving – an annual online giving challenge for alumni, students, parents, faculty, and staff to raise awareness and support for causes you care about – is happening March 30.
For a second year, student organizations will be showcased on the Emory Day of Giving site. This increased visibility will allow you to market your student organization through student matches and challenges. With our training and toolkits, plus your organization’s members and network, you can raise more support to expand the impact of your student organization. Don’t miss out!

Join Emory’s Weekly Compassion Meditation Group
Fifteen years ago, the Compassion Meditation Group began in relation to a study by the Emory Psychiatry Department in partnership with the Center for Contemplative Science and Compassion-Based Training. The practices we use reflect a secular approach helping participants develop skills of attention and compassion for self and others. The Compassion Meditation Group is open to anyone at Emory though participants usually come from graduate programs, faculty, or administration. Several adults from the surrounding community also attend. Supported by the Emory Spiritual and Religious Life Office, our intention is to learn about meditation practices and apply them to our daily lives. We welcome beginners as well as longer-time practitioner. All find community in this practice group.

Wellness coaching is a free service for all graduate students at Emory that provides support for navigating a variety of concerns, challenges, and life transitions. A coach works with you to maximize your personal and professional potential, and helps you focus on achieving goals that are meaningful for you. Whether it’s being more active, succeeding in the classroom, making connections, or other concerns, a coach can help you build a plan to reach your well-being goals.

Democracy and Electoral Integrity Completion Fellowship
The Laney Graduate School, The Carter Center’s Democracy Program, and Emory University Office of Global Strategy and Initiatives’ Atlanta Global Partnerships Program will support one Democracy and Electoral Integrity completion fellowship in the 2022 -2023 academic year for doctoral candidates in the humanities and/or social sciences with a strong preference for political science.

The Nat C. Robertson Endowment in Science & Society, in collaboration with the Institute for the Liberal Arts (ILA), requests applications for this inaugural year-long graduate student fellowship from September 1, 2022-August 31, 2023. This opportunity is open to any Laney Graduate School students in candidacy for their PhD and can be used in addition to existing funds.

Sheila Carson Dissertation Completion Fellowship for History PhD Students
The Sheila Carson Dissertation Completion Fellowship supports a student enrolled in the History doctoral program to finish their dissertation. The purpose of the Sheila Carson Dissertation Completion Fellowship is to support timely completion of Ph.D. work; it is designed for students whose work is far enough advanced so that completion and final approval of the dissertation during the academic year can be assured.
