Dear LGS Community,
Earlier today, you received messages from the University with information regarding vaccination decisions and additional plans for the Fall 2021 return to campus. As always, our top priority is the health, safety, and well-being of our community. These decisions are based on consultation and guidance from public health and infectious disease experts. Details of the plans are listed below.
COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements
At this time, vaccination for faculty and staff will not be required but is strongly encouraged. The University will continue to assess this decision to maintain community health.
Additional information about the vaccination requirements and deadlines is forthcoming.

Campus Density
As we continue to monitor the pandemic’s course and vaccine progress, it is important to remember that all plans are dynamic and subject to change. We understand that there are different perspectives regarding vaccinations and public health guidance. We are thankful, to all, for remaining vigilant and flexible during the ongoing disruptions of COVID-19.
Our ability to remain safe and sustain the highest standards possible for our research, learning, and teaching are commitments we share across LGS.
With all sincerity and hope for a better future, as a colleague and in my role as dean, I urge you to make your plan and receive your vaccination. Each individual’s action adds abundantly to reaching our goals and getting to the pandemic after-times.
Please stay safe and stay well.
With you, with great appreciation,
Lisa A. Tedesco, Ph.D. Vice Provost for Academic Affairs – Graduate Studies Dean, James T. Laney School of Graduate Studies Professor, Rollins School of Public Health Emory University
