Emory's Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Releases Strategic Planning Report, Invites Feedback from Campus Community
|
|
|
Last year, Emory University started the process of developing recommendations for our institutional diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) strategic goals. More than 70 Emory community members – including LGS students, faculty, and staff – engaged in the process, with many more sharing ideas in interviews, planning sessions, informal meetings, and community dialogues.
On Jan. 31, the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) released
The Institutional DEI Strategic Planning Communities Report
.
The report, which has been shared with President Fenves and Provost Bellamkonda, includes institutional recommendations, reports from many of the communities that make up Emory University (including graduate and professional students, postdoctoral fellows and associates, alumni, civic partners, and staff), and next steps.
The release of this report is a step in the process – Emory community members are invited to review the report and to provide feedback through March 30, 2022. Feedback will be considered during the implementation development period.
All members of the Emory community are encouraged to continue to be active participants in shaping Emory’s DEI strategy. Your voices are necessary and important.

Emory University Twin Memorials Project
Emory is committed to honoring and memorializing the untold experiences, stories, and contributions of enslaved individuals and their descendants who lived and worked on the university’s original campus in Oxford, Georgia. Emory’s Twin Memorials Working Group is creating a plan for twin memorials that articulates and interconnects the shared histories of the Emory and Oxford campuses.
The first, and most important, step in this process is to hear from the community. In addition to Emory students, faculty, staff, and alumni, the university seeks input from descendants, neighbors, and local community members.
Emory has engaged the firm Baskervill to guide the community-engagement and design process. You are invited to attend an event to learn more about the project.

Join Emory’s Weekly Compassion Meditation Group
Fifteen years ago, the Compassion Meditation Group began in relation to a study by the Emory Psychiatry Department in partnership with the Center for Contemplative Science and Compassion-Based Training. The practices we use reflect a secular approach helping participants develop skills of attention and compassion for self and others. The Compassion Meditation Group is open to anyone at Emory though participants usually come from graduate programs, faculty, or administration. Several adults from the surrounding community also attend. Supported by the Emory Spiritual and Religious Life Office, our intention is to learn about meditation practices and apply them to our daily lives. We welcome beginners as well as longer-time practitioner. All find community in this practice group.
